Micronation n. Nationalistic entities that resemble independent nations but which usually exist only on paper or on the Internet and are unrecognized by world governments or major international organizations.

Micronations are most often formed as a game, exercise or recreation, but other times with the possibility or intent of someday becoming a true, recognized nation. The biggest barrier to forming a new nation is finding physical territory in which to locate, as no land exists anymore that is not already within the territorial borders of existing nations.

The Principality of PokerXanadu is of the latter category, formed with at least the possibility of becoming a true nation. Although poker is a highly popular game of skill around the world, it is also highly regulated by governments, most games severely restricted or outlawed. In the case of Internet poker, although players around the globe enjoyed free access to sites for many years, recent passage of many national laws has imposed many restrictions and in some cases outright bans. The Principality of PokerXanadu is a response and protest to these new laws, proposing the formation of a new micronation where poker players have the unhindered right to enjoy the game of poker as a pastime or profession.
